A relaxing place in the heart of the village
A place with a history worth sharing!
All ground floor areas have now been refurbished in harmony with the character of the building whilst introducing a contemporary twist. The George Inn is also proud to offer five beautifully refurbished en suite double bedrooms.
We open all day from midday with roaring log fires in the winter and a lovely sunny garden in the summer.
Children are welcome throughout the hotel, with a children’s menu together with the option of smaller portions, where practical, from the main menu.
Our superb Sunday Lunch is ever popular with a glass of wine or a beer or two, and, having built up a good appetite walking in the fantastic local countryside, presents a splendid way to idle away your Sunday afternoon.
Dogs are very welcome, we can even feed and water them if required!
About the George Inn – A Brief History
The oldest part of the building is the lower bar which is believed to date from the mid 15th Century.
The building has grown considerably from this time with the majority of the building being Georgian, including the impressive arched entrance to the Courtyard, through which you reach the car park and the walled garden.
As would be expected from a building steeped in so much history, we are reputed to have a number of ghosts.
Visits have been made by several paranormal societies such as the Bristol Society of Paranormal Studies together with several mediums to try to investigate further but as yet…no pictures!
It is said that Judge Jeffreys held Court in the room above the lower bar (soon to be the bridal suite!) in the 17th Century.
